How is the drive from Winnipeg?
  •  The drive from Winnipeg takes roughly an hour, and is on divided highway 3/4 of the way. There are gas stations and convenience stores along the the route.

How far is Grand Beach?

  • Grand Beach Park is an approximately a 3-4 minute drive from Bear Country Cottage Resort in the Winter months or a 15 minute drive in the summer.  The reason for the difference in seasons  is we are able to use the North park gate off-season.  Alternatively, we do have Lester Beach within a short 3-5 minute drive from the resort.  For those not familiar with the area, Lester Beach is on Lake Winnipeg, just north of Grand, same fine sand with less of a crowd.  May of our regular guests prefer Lester Beach for this reason.  We also have Victoria, Hillside and Albert Beaches within a short drive of the resort!

What do we need to bring with us? ~ What do you supply?

  • We do not supply paper towel personal soap or shampoo.  All linens, towels, dish cloths and dish towels are supplied.  We also supply Toilet paper, dish soap and coffee filters.

What if there is an emergency?
  • Hospitals are nearby. Plus, in case of an emergency, you can call us anytime during your stay and we'll direct you accordingly..

Are you Lakefront?  Can you walk to the lake?

  • Bear Country Cottage Resort in not a lake front resort.  We are within walking distance from the lake but must drive to the sandy beach which is only about 3 minutes by car.


When booking a weeklong vacation, what day of the week do we check in?
  • In July and August our weeks run Sunday – Sunday or Friday - Friday. Check in is 4:00 pm and checkout is 11am on your last day.  

How many convenience stores are in the area to buy groceries, etc?
  • We have three convenience stores within a 5-minute drive of the resort. These stores sell groceries, lotto tickets, fuel (diesel and gas) liquor and other items that you may have forgotten to pack.
  •   Pine Falls is approx. 20 minutes away, offering several stores, shops, etc. Selkirk is approx 35 minutes from the resort, which has a Safeway, Wal-Mart, restaurants, etc.
  • This area also offers several restaurants, burger stands and concessions for an alternative to cooking.

Do you allow pets in the cottages or at the resort?

  • We do not allow pets of any kind at the resort or inside the cottages. Please do not ask for exceptions as this policy is firm.

What is there to do at the resort or in the area?

  • At the resort we have a playground/structure for the kids.  We also provide complimentary mountain bikes, sports equipment, board games, movies and books while staying with us.  Furthermore, hiking, walking, ski and mountain bike trails are accessed at the north gate of the Grand Beach Provincial Park - a short 3-5 minute drive.   The Grand Beach area also offers tennis courts, mini golf, golf, roller blading,  Thunder Mountain waterslides, guided nature walks, basket ball courts,  water sport rentals,  skateboard park and weekend  kids programs.  We also have excellent ATV and Snowmobile trails in the area running to and from the resort.

 


How many guests can each cottage comfortably sleep?
  • Our two bedroom cottages are primarily designed for couples or families up to 5; however, if you use the hide-a-bed, our cottages will sleep up to 6.
  • Our three bedroom cottages can sleep up to 8 (max 4 adults, an exception may be made for up to 6 in certain circumstances and this must be approved at the time of booking).
  • We also have a playpen that can be borrowed for infants staying with us.  
  • Cots are also available for a nominal cost of $10.00 per night.

Do you have daily maid service?

  • We are a "light house keeping" resort.  Meaning we do not have daily maid service. 

Can I fish nearby?

  • Excellent fishing can be had by all on the Winnipeg River (some of Manitoba's best) both by boat or from the shore.   Guests have also fished in Grand Beach off the causeway bridge.  Please keep in mind that Provincial fishing licenses are required.

What other services do you offer?
  • We offer a variety of services, including hot tub rentals.  As our resort makes an excellent site for family reunions, corporate get-together’s, and other group functions.  We can also arrange wedding and social tent rentals upon request. If there's something else you need not mentioned here, just ask,  we'll do our best to help you out whenever possible.
